The small groups of children allow for the development of close-knit friendships, careful integration into larger social groups, and personal attention to individual developmental needs. The sessions follow the children’s interests and curiosities, and focus largely on incorporating the outdoors and play. Our sessions vary in frequency and length to suit your and your child’s current needs. Sessions are currently only offered in the Kirkwood area. They are 2 hour ‘play-dates’ with a few friends in a group where they explore, question, and develop through sensory and play provocations. In these sessions we bring in little circle times, snack times and deep exploration activities. We encourage sensory, outdoor, creative and messy play, along with more focused activities such as puzzles, construction and stories. Days: Tuesday 14:45 - 16:45 Thursday 14:45 - 16:45 Location: Little Footprints (2 Jakaranda Street, Kirkwood) PLEASE NOTE: We allow the children to settle-in at their own pace at Little Footprints. We encourage a caregiver/parent to join your child until they are ready to say goodbye. This can take anything from 2 weeks to 6 months. We support and communicate with you throughout this process . We encourage you to play with your child and slowly step back as they get comfortable with the space. When we feel they are ready, we will take the next necessary steps to encourage your child to playing independently in these sessions. They offer the chance for deeper explorations into themes, discussions and interests. They are usually for the children moving up from the 2 hour Play-date Sessions. Children will share a snack and lunch (packed by parents) with their friends. The children will take on more responsibilities in the sessions and have more agency in their learning. This encourages further independence and confidence in their abilities, and a chance to deeply engage in their wonders and interests, through play. We strive to use and incorporate nature and natural objects into our day-to-day activities and spend as much time outside as the weather permits. They are seen as the ‘Second Teacher’, full of wonders, and eager to learn and discover. They know what they want to do, and don’t want to do. They know how to use their interests to guide them and their curiosity to seek answers. This is why we follow a learner-centered and inquiry-based programme. We do not have set themes for sessions/months as we want to approach the child on their level and follow their interests in order to allow for the most productive learning environment. We as "The Teacher", have a lot to learn from each unique child, and how best to guide their learning pathway.
