      <image:title>Home - Where Play Leads the Way</image:title>
<image:caption>A child-led, play-based preschool in Kirkwood, where curiosity, creativity and meaningful learning are nurtured through play, exploration and the outdoors. Welcome to Little Footprints Little Footprints is a private preschool in Kirkwood for children from 18 months to 4½ years of age. Our approach is child-led, play-based and rooted in the belief that young children learn best when they are given the time and space to explore, question, create and play. Rather than following a set theme or predetermined programme, our curriculum grows from the children themselves. Our teachers observe their interests, questions and curiosities and use these to develop meaningful lines of inquiry. These inquiries are extended through thoughtfully prepared environments, stories, conversations, creative experiences, sensory exploration and time outdoors. Children are encouraged to move, investigate, make choices and follow their curiosity, while our teachers intentionally guide and extend the learning happening through their play. Our Groups Little Sprouts | 18 months–2½ years Gentle two-hour sessions designed to introduce younger children to the preschool environment through play, exploration and connection. Little Seedlings | 2½–4½ years Our morning preschool programme offers children longer periods of uninterrupted play and exploration, allowing friendships, independence and deeper lines of inquiry to develop. Why Little Footprints? Choosing a preschool is about finding a place where your child will feel safe, known and excited to explore. We would love to introduce you to our little school and tell you more about our groups. Child-led learning Children’s interests, questions and ideas help shape the direction of our curriculum. Learning through play We recognise play as meaningful work through which young children develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. Nature-rich childhoods The outdoors forms a large part of our day, giving children space to move, explore, experiment and connect with the natural world. Intentional relationships Our teacher-child ratios allow us to know each child well and respond thoughtfully to their individual development, personality and needs.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Approach - The Child</image:title>
<image:caption>The Child is our main focus at Little Footprints. They are seen as the ‘Second Teacher’, full of wonders, and eager to learn and discover. They know what they want to do, and don’t want to do. They know how to use their interests to guide them and their curiosity to seek answers. This is why we follow a learner-centered and inquiry-based programme. We do not have set themes for sessions/months as we want to approach the child on their level and follow their interests in order to allow for the most productive learning environment. We as "The Teacher", have a lot to learn from each unique child, and how best to guide their learning pathway. This starts with listening and observing The Child, and using their interests as a way to provide an environment that is captivating and ensures questioning and optimal learning.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Approach - The Environment</image:title>
<image:caption>The Environment is thus another core focus and is seen as the ‘Third Teacher’, with an essential role in captivating interests and stimulating their curiosity. At Little Footprints, we embrace nature as a main component in contributing to the ‘Third Teacher’. It is God's gift to us, and everything we truly need comes from it. We strive to use and incorporate nature and natural objects into our day-to-day activities and spend as much time outside as the weather permits. Many wonders and discoveries stem from nature, and it is those wonders and discoveries which flow into Curiosity, Creativity and Compassion.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Approach - Play</image:title>
<image:caption>Play is our third core focus. We see value in different educational approaches, and seek to bring aspects of the Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Steiner philosophies into our educational practice, creating something unique. One value that is at the forefront of all three philosophies is the importance of learning through PLAY. Play that is inquiry-based, learner centered, and allows for freedom of movement, autonomy and choice, ensuring the development and extension of children's natural behaviours of Curiosity, Creativity and Compassion.</image:caption>
